Bible Study Lesson: Let’s Discuss Hebrews 10:25
One day, my friends and I were discussing why I hadn’t attend church services in a long time; and of course Hebrews 10:25 always come up.
”Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
I used to judge my mom for not going to church at one time. When I ask my mom “Hey when are you coming back to church?” Her answer was always “Don’t push me. Don’t worry about me.” In other words, none of my business.
She was absolutely right; it was none of my business. In fact, it’s none of anyone’s business, because that’s between you and God alone.
Hebrews 10:25 is always used as some excuse as to why we should never stop going to church. However, if you are a born again believer, then you know and should know that you are the church. The Body of Christ is not only the church, but his bride.
First of all, Scriptures have been taken out of context for centuries and years past and will continue. It’s just the nature of the beast, unfortunately. Granted, Hebrews 10:25 does give off the indication that we as believers are to go to church and never miss a service and yeah it looks good on surface, but suffice to say, that’s just a manly opinion, in my humble opinion.Bible Study Lesson: Let's Discuss Hebrews 10:25 @budgetsweights #biblestudy #bible #Hebrews Click To Tweet
You have to look at the meaning of assembling from a biblical POV and you can look at it in the Greek as meaning “episunagoge” This is used Hebrews 10:25, but also 2 Thessalonians 2:1. Both times it means “gathering together”. Meaning the verse, along with verse 26-27 is in reference has nothing to do with the present time or what is done in the church building; it’s meaning is encouraging and supporting each other as believer (everyday, all day, 24/7), as we look forward towards the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
So, if this verse is about the church aka the body of Christ encouraging one another until his coming, then where did people get the indication that Hebrews 10:25 is about going to church? It’s basically human interpretation and let me tell you that is when man is at his most dangerous. I say that because, only the Holy Spirit can give you that understand of what the word of God means. It’s not meant for our human mind to comprehend scripture, because you need the Spirit of God inside of you to be able to understand what our human wisdom cannot.
1 Corinthians 1:25 says “For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength”
That is why it is important that we ask the Holy Spirit to give us the understanding of the scripture, when we study, because if not, we will interrupt the verse through our human wisdom and that is dangerous and more importantly, it’s wrong.
You ever heard that phrase that “opinions are like (insert your own word, such as noses or ears), everyone has one? Same rule applies. Man thinks that we have to follow the according to what everyone else is doing, but they never thought to ask God if it’s in alignment to what his word is saying.
Not going to be the last time that’s for sure. Man is fallible, but like Jesus said, “Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matt 26:41)
If we don’t understand something, own up to it and just say “Father, I don’t get it. I just cannot understand what your word is saying. Please help me to understand better.” I rather admit that I don’t know, than to make assumptions or give an incorrect hypothesis about what it may mean.
By the way (BTW), this post is not to say that going to Church is wrong and we shouldn’t go. I’m not saying that at all. Some people (unbelievers and believers alike) believe that if you don’t go to church, then you have backslidden or you’re not saved. That is not true, whatsoever and yes, I admit I used to be ignorant of this, as well.
First of all, it’s not a sin, not a crime, or all of the above, if you cannot attend a church service. Sometimes, you just don’t want to go. Sometimes, you may be sick. Sometimes, you’re working. Whatever, the reason may be, don’t let anyone guilt you.
Thing is you can worship, praise, preach about Jesus anytime, anywhere and not just on a Sunday morning. If you don’t want to step foot into a church building for services on a Sunday morning, don’t do it. God loves a cheerful giver. (Yeah I know it’s meant giving financially or is it all types of giving…………..) Go to church because you want to go, not because of necessity or by force; believe me when I say this, if you go for any reason that does not fully include God (meaning you’re not going to give your entire attention to him), you will not enjoy the worship and eventually, it may completely turn you off.
People will give Hebrews 10:25 as the scripture for going to church, please don’t argue, because most people’s minds are already made up. Just say thank you and let it be.
Because your relationship and everything about it, is between you and God. When you stand before him, it will be you and God and the day you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, it was you and him.
Talk to him in all situations and tell him how you are feeling. I mean, he already knows, but he just want you to come to him anyway. It’s a sonship relationship and no one should get in between a parent and child relationship.
1) Hebrews 10:25 is not a scripture that means that you must go to church. It means to encourage one another at all times, anytime and anywhere.
2) Scripture is always incorrectly assumed wrong and misinterpret, because it’s regarded with human wisdom and not godly wisdom.
3) If you go to Church, go because you want to go and not out of necessity or by force. Nothing bad is going to happen is you don’t go.
4) Remember that the Body of Christ is the Church, meaning you are the Church, if you have trusted Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Alright until next time and let’s continue to encourage and uplift one another in Christ Jesus, until he takes us home.
